Your presence isn’t always present enough—here’s why.
If you’re invited to a destination or domestination wedding, this question might be burning in the back of your mind: Are you still required to buy the couple a wedding gift, even though you’re already paying a ton to get to their wedding location? The short answer is yes (don’t hate us).
We understand being an awesome guest can rack up a bill. But no matter how much it costs to be a wedding guess —not to mention a destination wedding guest—you’re always expected (although not technically required) to give a gift. But don’t feel the need to splurge on a big-ticket registry item after paying for flights to Morocco. If you’re already anxious about travel expenses, feel free to choose a more modest present (hopefully the couple includes a nice range of gifts to help you out).
That said, many couples know how pricey their wedding location is and will ask their guests to forgo wedding gifts. Your presence on such a special day is what’s most important to them. In this case, you certainly don’t need to do anything, although it’s always nice to gift the couple a little something, like a nice bottle of their favorite bourbon—and at the very least, send a sweet note.
